Last week we met up with one of our June couples, Becky & Matt, for some engagement photos in downtown Pittsburgh! The first stop was the very scenic Mt. Washington, which offers one of the best views of the city. I may be biased, but I don’t think any city has a better view! It was a beautiful Friday evening and Becky & Matt got all snuggly and romantic looking out at the city while “my” Matt and I captured their sweetness from a distance. While on top of Mt. Washington we also shot a few photos outside the beautiful St. Mary of the Mount Parish. It’s brick walls and stained glass windows are so stunning!
Next we drove downtown and just walked around. We ended up at one of Pittsburgh’s most notable downtown building, PPG Place. When you look at the city skyline, it looks like a huge glass castle. The first 5 night shots below were taking there. I really love the last one showing their reflection in the glass. It was such a sweet moment!
As we walked to PPG Place, Becky & Matt pointed out this cool little bar/restaurant called Papa J’s that they kept wanting to check out. On the way back to the car, we decided to stop in to check it out. First step in the door and it already exceeded expectations. It looked like a quaint little bar with a restaurant in the back. The air was filled with fresh garlic and there were just a few people hanging out having a few drinks. We sit at the bar and continue to look around at all of the old decor and the bartender proceeds to fill us in about the history of the building. Apparently, it was once a brothel! We were really intrigued and looked around the rest of the building. Being a quiet evening there, it was particularly chilling. We were like kids exploring a haunted house. Every little thing about the place seemed extremely cool, and we HAD to do a few photos there! We were especially drawn to the “Madame’s Room,” which included a very old brick wall and a beautiful hanging light. Matt shot in black and white to capture the mood and we played a little with the lighting. I think the photos are very steamy in a subtle, suggestive way!
We had so much fun spending time with Becky & Matt again! And we couldn’t get over the discovery of Papa J’s! It was a hidden treasure in downtown Pittsburgh! So glad that they suggested it! It made for a very adventurous evening! Can’t wait to see you two again this summer!! ; )
