I’m usually pretty quick to blog photos, but I’m just now getting a chance to blog Ashley & Zoiner’s San Diego engagement photos from over 2 weeks ago! In fact, Ashley came out to Florida to do some wedding planning over a week ago and I already gave her the edited images!

But now it’s time to share these images for the world to see! Ashley & Zoiner are stylish, sexy, and so sweet! We had a great time hanging out with them at the stunning Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, which is one of Zoiner’s absolute favorite places to unwind! Everyone there was so accommodating, and I think that when the guests saw our gorgeous couple they may have thought they were models doing a shoot for a magazine! From the very start they were so comfortable in front of the camera, and we really had fun photographing them and also getting to know them better!

Ashley & Zoiner, thanks for a wonderful time and for rockin’ the camera! Hope to see you again soon, either on our coast or yours! : )

Look who’s beautiful faces are on the DIY Weddings website today! It’s two beautiful that we love and adore, Holly & Brock! We also teamed up with Faythe Mesic from A Glamour Bride, who did hair and makeup for Holly!

We hope that you enjoy their details, including the oh-so-adorable cupcakes in a jar made personally by Holly! Now THAT is a favor that everyone wants to take home! : )

We just got in from spending some time with our friends Christie & Shawn for their engagement photos! I think they are so brave for being cute and affectionate in front of us considering how long we’ve known them. I would have been so shy and uncomfortable, but they were just themselves, giggling and making funny faces at each other and laughing! It’s hard to choose a favorite, but as we were shooting this photo caught my attention. I just love how natural they are together in this moment!

There are many more photos to come on Tuesday, but for now here’s a sneak peek of Christie & Shawn:

Now to Wedding Wednesday’s…

Everyday we have the exciting privilege of helping brides-to-be find, and fall in love with, the wedding gown of their dreams! It is hands down the best part about our job at Solutions Bridal. Our stylists have years of experience and exceeding amounts of knowledge in all things bridal attire related. It is this attention to detail and expert guidance that goes a long way when helping a bride decide on her day-of dress.

The world of wedding attire design is quite extensive, and all of the choices available, while they are great to have, can ultimately make the decision of the final gown selection seemingly impossible! Some brides know exactly what they are looking for before they even walk into our salon, and that decisiveness is the perfect attitude to have when searching for your stunning gown. On the other hand, many brides come to us with a general knowledge of a style or silhouette they love, but quickly become overwhelmed in this world of tulle, trains, and tiaras, and begin to dread the decision that was once an exciting experience.

Being stylish is simple, but making that all important final gown decision might not be. We absolutely love seeing all of our brides try on their top choices in-store, but all too often our brides-to-be look great in so many of their choices that they fall in love with more than one gown!

Trust us when we say that this dilemma is a GOOD thing. Adoring more than one gown just means that whatever choice you make is a great decision! To help further the decision making process we usually ask our brides these three questions…

1. Does it fit with your personality and sense of style?
You want to look extra special on your Big Day, but if the dress is the opposite of something you would usually pick, you may not feel the same adoration after you leave the store. Our advice is to pick a gown that reflects your personal style, but is also extra-ordinary to ensure you dazzle more than ever on your I-Do day! Your wedding day is all about you, and your gown should compliment and accentuate your personality to showcase the best possible you!

2. Do you feel comfortable in the dress?
It is essential that you feel comfortable and confident in this dress. You will be in it for 8-10 hours, maybe longer, and the last thing you want to have to worry about is adjusting your gown or feeling self conscious. Comfort is key when choosing your wedding gown!

3. Can you envision yourself walking down the isle toward your future husband in this dress?
We always ask our future brides to look at their gown from as many angels as possible to guarantee they love it no matter what. Sometimes, the deciding factor for a bride happens the moment we ask them to take a few steps back from the mirror. This allows them to see the complete image and vision of themselves in the gown. From a distance, the bride pictures what they will look like walking down the isle on their wedding day. This is usually when we cue the tears! It is always such a touching moment when the bride realizes that the decision is made. This is HER gown, and this is the dream dress she will wear down the isle to marry the love of her life!

Moral of the story, picking your gown should be one of the most exciting things you do in your wedding planning process. Try not to stress, and remember the overall reason for the purchase of the gown, which is to marry your perfect other half on your wedding day! Choosing a gown is definitely a huge decision, but you already made the biggest decision when you said YES! Everything after that is just icing on the cake!

A Blast of a Birthday!

February 22, 2011

We just had the most amazing weekend hanging out with our friends Nancy & Salim this past weekend! We stayed at the quaint and cozy Creekstone Cabin outside of Asheville, NC and had such a blast! We spent time chatting, drinking wine, playing cards, cooking dinner, drinking more wine, and sharing a ton of laughs. It was the perfect getaway!

Creekside Cabin

Nancy & Salim are so awesome that they made Irish Car Bomb cupcakes for my birthday! They are the greatest cupcakes ever, and if you can believe it they taste ever BETTER than they sound! They also got me a hilarious card from Bald Guy Greetings and a Misto (everyone needs one of these!!). They also cooked an amazing dinner for us since we arrived at the cabin a few hours after they did! Ravioli with spinach and shrimp in a cream sauce… delish!

On Sunday we headed into Asheville to grab lunch at Luella’s BBQ (fall-off-the-bone yummy!) and walk around the shops.

This is Nancy & Salim! Aren't they adorable?! : )

Me & Matt (Nancy's Android takes MUCH better photos than my iPhone!)

We came back to the cabin for dinner and had the most amazing steaks topped with a blue cheese sauce! Salim & Matt took care of dinner while us girls were sitting by the fire enjoying being spoiled! The guys also cooked breakfast and dinner on Monday! They were so adorable taking care of all the preparations:

The weekend went by much too fast! We were so sad to see them go, but we’re already making plans to hang out again soon! I just can’t put into words how much fun this weekend was! Nancy & Salim – you guys just ROCK! Looking forward to many more weekends like this one! Thanks for everything!! : )

We’d like to thank our friend Katrina at Made of Honor Weddings for featuring us on her vendor spotlight over the weekend! We had fun answering the questions! Thanks so much! : )

We can’t tell you how much we enjoy shooting weddings that are referred to us by past couples! It all started with Jenny and Miguel’s engagement photos in San Diego, who then referred us to Maricel and EJ, who referred us to Sammy and Allen. They are all part of a very cool and caring group of friends in Southern California and we are very thankful that they’ve all reached out to us and included us in some very important moments in their lives. We really love them all!

Sammy and Allen had their wedding at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Chino Hills, CA. It was one of those perfect sunny California days, and as Sammy got ready with her girls you could see how excited she was to be marrying Allen. One of the sweetest moments was when she was presented with Allen’s wedding gift – a gorgeous necklace and set of earrings that she wanted to buy for the wedding but decided was too expensive to splurge on. The smile on her face was priceless! Sammy’s gift to Allen was a sexy Armani watch. She was so thrilled when she got to see a picture of him wearing it before the ceremony!

Sammy and Allen had a traditional Catholic ceremony. After the ceremony, we went to Summitridge Park for wedding party photos and individual photos of Sammy and Allen. With a setting sun and beautiful trees, the park was the perfect backdrop for photos!

The reception took place at the Sheraton Fairplex in Pomona. As Allen said on Facebook after the wedding, the wedding guests partied like rockstars! It was a great time, but the highlight of the evening was Sammy and Allen’s first dance. Sammy and Allen were interviewed by DJ Steve Shanahan at Honored Occasions and shared the story of how they met, how Allen had proposed, and how they felt about each other. Little did Sammy know that Allen had had these statements recorded and mixed into their first dance song, so as they danced for the first time, their statements of love were played for everyone to enjoy. What an incredible surprise!!! We had a hard time fighting the tears as we tried to capture this special moment!

The newlyweds are currently having the time of their lives in Hawaii (sooo lucky!!). We send them best of wishes as they start their life together as husband and wife!!!

Happy Valentine’s Day! <3 Today, we're making this an extra special holiday for one very lucky couple! More than 8,000 people voted in our wedding photography giveaway, narrowing the contest down to 5 finalists whose love stories were read by a panel of judges. The panel had the difficult task of choosing one couple to receive a wedding photography package from Gwendolyn Tundermann Photography! Congratulations to our winning couple, Leigh Anne & Patrick, who are planning a November wedding in the charming city of St. Augustine! We're looking forward to being part of their wedding day! To celebrate this day of LOVE, we're excited to share the love story of Leigh Anne & Patrick!

How we met:
Patrick’s older sister, Natalie, and I had met the year before through our parents who attend the same church and instantly became best friends. Unknown to Patrick or me, Natalie began planning to set the two of us up because she saw a great couple in the making. In August 2009 she moved to Raleigh NC; then on Christmas Eve, Natalie flew back to Florida for the vacation. She schemed to have Patrick and his older brother Nathan pick me up and drive into Orlando to get her from the airport. The four of us spent the day in Orlando shopping and getting to know each other. The day after Christmas, both of our families got together at Andretti Thrill Park to spend time racing on the go-carts and playing mini-golf. Afterwards, I went back to their house to hang out for a while. That night, Patrick and I stayed up until four in the morning talking and getting to know each other. I ended up driving to Raleigh to spend New Year’s Eve with them. Patrick and I spent the next two days visiting local sites in Raleigh and learning more about one another. After this Patrick still lived in Indianapolis and I in Cocoa Beach so we kept in touch on a daily basis through texting, phone calls, and video chat. The weekend of February 14, Patrick’s job brought him through Raleigh where he had a few days off to be with family. I agreed to fly up to Raleigh for the weekend and that’s when Patrick asked me to be his Valentine with a cheesy homemade Valentine’s card and the rest was history!

The proposal:
On Christmas Eve 2010 Patrick asked me to breakfast to celebrate the one-year mark of the day we met before I headed over to my parent’s house for the Holiday (or so I thought!). After eating at one of our favorite cafes, Simply Delicious located on Cocoa Beach, Patrick suggested we head over for a quick walk on the beach because it was a beautiful sunny day. I absolutely love the beach so I agreed. After crossing the walkway, we found a mostly vacant beach and began down to the ocean. We only made it a short distance before Patrick couldn’t wait any longer and stopped me. He began to tell me how much he cared for me and I agreed even saying how I couldn’t believe that it was only a year ago that we had met. Patrick decided to take that and run – continuing by saying “Who would have thought that exactly a year ago today I would be doing this.” At that moment Patrick pulled out the ring and got down on one knee to ask for me to marry him!

About us:
Right now Patrick lives in Raleigh, NC and I still live in Cocoa Beach. I went to UCF and majored in mechanical engineering and am currently working at Kennedy Space Center. As the space program winds down I will be getting laid off in April – however not disappointed at all because it finally gives me the chance to move to North Carolina to be near him! Over the past year we have gotten to see each other an average of 5 days a month. Even with only being able to spend that little time together in person we know without a doubt that we are meant to be. Patrick traveled for 2 years after college for his previous job and was able to travel to 48 states. Afterwards he moved to Raleigh to find a job in the finance industry. He attended Florida Southern and majored in Economics and Finance. We both love to read, love sports (playing them and watching), and love to cook (especially our homemade sushi). After I move to NC in April we are most looking forward to getting to know each other on a day to day basis and wallowing in the bliss of finally being able to see each other whenever we want!

Such a sweet story! We hope that it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy! Did anyone else applaud when they read how Patrick asked Leigh Anne to marry him? Kudos Patrick!!!

Thanks again to our panel for choosing the winner of our first ever wedding photography giveaway:

Heidi from Truly Engaging Wedding Blog
Faythe from A Glamour Bride
Katrina from Made of Honor Weddings
Kayleigh from Solutions Bridal Designer House
Michelle (one of our amazing brides from 2010)

And last, but certainly not least, thank you to everyone who participated in the contest! You are all amazing couples and even the panel agreed that it was difficult to choose a winner! We wish everyone the best in planning your special day!

This week, Monica & Mike’s Eleuthera wedding photos were featured on Destination I Do! When I think of a romantic wedding, I think of Monica & Mike’s intimate wedding on the quiet island of Eleuthera. They rented a beach house and held their ceremony on the back deck, overlooking the stunning turquoise water behind them. We love all kinds of weddings, big and small, formal and casual, but I think our favorite might be when it’s just the couple.

Next month, Monica & Mike will celebrate their one year anniversary! We wish many more years of happiness for them, hoping that they always remember that beautiful day in Eleuthera! Thank you to Destination I Do for featuring their gorgeous wedding!

Choosing a color palette for your wedding is one of the first major decisions a newly engaged bride-to-be considers. After all, the colors of the wedding will be the basis of every décor decision and more. Some brides have had their wedding colors picked out for as long as they can remember, and that is great! Knowing what you want and going after it is the first step to ensure your perfect wedding day visions become a reality!

The rest of us are not so lucky. Picking the palette of your Big Day may seem simple, but when you start to consider all of the components like flowers, linens, bridesmaid dresses, and more, it can become quite overwhelming leaving many brides asking…”Where do I begin?”

Of course there will be trends for the season, and that is a great place to start if you are unsure, but there are a few things you should keep in mind when picking your perfect palette.

The first thing to do is determine your personal wedding style. Are you a bubbly bride looking to brighten every aspect of your day? Hot pink and orange could be your choice! Maybe you are more of a romantic, vintage bride, and are in love with softer colors. Pastel tones, like blush and bone or powder blue and white could be exactly what you are looking for. If you are a modern, fashion forward bride, picking a neutral like black or grey and adding a pop of color, perhaps yellow or turquoise, is a wonderful way to keep your “I-Do” day contemporary and chic.

Next, consider location. Are you getting married on the beach of a tropical island? Will you say “I Do” in a lavish antique church? Perhaps your ceremony will take place in a more natural garden setting? Picture colors that compliment your surroundings. It is the best way to ensure your wedding day has a consistent feel and theme from start to finish.

Third, don’t over do it. It may seem like a great idea to have all of your favorite colors in your wedding, but incorporating too many colors can take your special day from precious to circus in no time. Keep it simple, two to three colors, and make one color dominant, accenting with the others. Get creative when thinking of areas to incorporate color. Seeing five bridesmaids in purple dresses with turquoise sashes would definitely take the attention away from you, and what bride wants that?! Try a colored shoe, or accent your flowers by wrapping the bouquet with a colored sash. Whatever you do, keep in mind that the colors you pick should compliment you and your day, not take away from it.

Ultimately, the decision is up to you! In the end, the colors and decisions you make for your day should be exactly what you want. Select whatever colors you like, despite the season, surroundings, or bridesmaid input. The number one rule is that there are no rules, and on this day, it is all about you!
