We recently went on the road to shoot Claire & Oliver’s wedding in California (which we will be sharing on the blog TOMORROW!!! Yay!), so we thought we would document some of the trip so we could share it on Wedding Wednesday. We had direct flights both ways, which we definitely prefer when traveling for weddings. I’m always willing to drive down to my hometown of Orlando if it means we can get a direct flight! We also flew for the first time ever on Virgin America, and we love it! Virgin and JetBlue are definitely our favorite airlines! Great customer service and comfortable flights!

While in California, we also visited with our album vendor to pick up an album for one of our other CA couples, Linelle & Jonathan. We also saw some of the new materials they were testing out and found out that they used one of our albums as a sample! Pretty cool!

On Sunday we met up with 3 of our couples (including the bride we picked up the album for). It’s always great seeing everyone when we come out there! Sadly, I didn’t think to get any pictures with them! We were going to do a photo shoot, but it was cold and rainy. At least it was beautiful for the wedding!

In the second video, Matt reviews our LowePro 200x Roller and our LowePro Flipside backpack. We absolutely love them both! The roller carries 4 camera bodies, 4 speedlights, our 2 large zoom lenses, about 5-6 prime lenses, and a bunch of accessories. We used the backpack to carry all of our chargers and batteries. In the event that we were on a small plane that couldn’t accomodate our roller bag, we could put our two main cameras bodies, two zoom lenses, and a couple primes into the backpack. We’ve actually traveled to a wedding on a plane that had about 10 seats, so the backpack is for the worst case scenario because it will absolutely fit on any plane. It’s not likely to happen on a cross country trip, but always better to be prepared! I’m all about logistics and constantly thinking of “what if…”

I also brought my ShootSac (given to me by my wonderful friend Rupa) which packs pretty flat and Matt used the backpack as his camera bag on the wedding day in lieu of his regular bag (which is a bit bulky). We also bring the roller bag with us to the wedding to carry extra lenses, batteries, chargers, etc. We pack our tripod and lightstands into our checked bag along with our clothes. Well, Matt’s clothes. I’m proud to say that all of my clothes (except for my suit) fit into a small carry on bag! We also bring a bag to carry the lightstands in and pack it in the checked bag (it takes up very little space). If you have any questions about our roller bag or backpack, please feel free to email us at info@gwendolyntundermann.com.

Apologies for the shaky camera work. I used my iPhone to capture everything, but I hope you enjoy it! : )

Sometimes, the best way to get to know a couple is to hear all the stories of them from those who are closest to them. When Phil’s best woman, Donna, gave her speech, she shared how Andrea and Phil first met while teaching at the same school. When Andrea confided in Donna that she had a crush on Phil, Donna decided to play matchmaker and we’re really glad she did because Andrea and Phil are absolutely perfect for each other!

Andrea and Phil had a gorgeous fall wedding at the East Lake Woodlands Country Club. They chose to do a first look before their ceremony, with Andrea walking to out to a waiting Phil on the veranda outside the club. You could see by the look in Phil’s eyes that he considered himself the luckiest guy on the planet. It was a real struggle for them to hold off from kissing each other until the ceremony!

The ceremony took place underneath beautiful old oak trees by a lake. It was an elegant ceremony and included some great personal touches, like asking for blessings from both sets of parents and including a sand ceremony where the parents and Andrea and Phil poured sand into a framed photo of themselves.

The wedding had such incredible details, including a pair of boots that Andrea wore under her dress, custom jewelry that included a pendant that belonged to Andrea’s grandmother, sharp brown tuxedos worn by the guys, and the custom-designed florals by Andrea’s mom. Andrea and Phil also had a cupcake tower, a chocolate fountain, and a “Yo Phi” signature cocktail at the reception.

As for the reception, all we can say is that it was one heck of a party! It was non-stop dancing and laughter. From classic rock and disco, to the latest hip hop, Andrea and Phil rocked out until it was time for their grand exit through a tunnel of sparklers!

We had so much fun at Andrea and Phil’s wedding. We’re so happy that we made friends with Andrea’s parents, Kristi and Kirk, and are so honored that they thought highly enough of us to ask us to photograph the wedding! And it was a real pleasure getting to know the Dietz family as well! It’s always so amazing to see two families join together!

We welcome Andrea & Phil back from an incredible honeymoon in Ireland!! We know everyone has been anxious to see the photos, so we’re thrilled to finally share them along with a special slideshow! Congratulations again Andrea & Phil! : )

Today was a truly incredible day for Leigh Anne & Patrick’s downtown St. Augustine wedding at the White Room! It was beautiful from start to finish, even the brief sprinkle of rain that provided a gorgeous rainbow just after their ceremony! How’s that for a blessing!!

We’re so thrilled that Leigh Anne & Patrick won our first annual wedding giveaway! We couldn’t have asked for a sweeter couple to win! And we are very excited to announce that we will be giving away another package in 2012! Check back for details on January 1st!

We hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We spent the past few days at a cabin in Georgia spending time with our puppies, but during our trip we also met up with Rachel & Dylan for some engagement photos in downtown Columbus! We just returned to the East Coast today after an amazing trip to California for Claire & Oliver’s beautiful wedding at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach! The weather was chilly, overcast, and even rainy – except on Claire & Oliver’s wedding day! For that one day, the weather was absolutely perfect! We ran into the newlyweds at the airport yesterday as they headed to Turks and Caicos for their honeymoon! We look forward to sharing all of the gorgeous details with you when they return, but we couldn’t resist posting a sneak peek of this beautiful couple!

Happy honeymoon, Claire & Oliver! : )

We’ve known Christie & Shawn for quite some time and we really looked forward to the day when they would be married! So when they chose 11/11/11 as their wedding date, we were thrilled to know we’d be spending the most popular wedding day of the year with a couple that is fun and truly in love!

They chose the Riverplace Tower for their ceremony because of its gorgeous view of the St John’s River and downtown Jacksonville. Their reception site was the Skyline Restaurant on the 42nd floor of the Bank of America building, which has an amazing view of the entire Jacksonville area. We loved their details, from the blue butterflies in Christie’s hair to Shawn’s sharp blue suit. But the most unique details were at their lego-themed reception. Each table had a number made from legos and bowls of legos for guests to build their own creations. And the entire cake stand was a series of Lego platforms with a rotating top. Each tier was filled with incredible cupcakes from Sivada’s Bakery. We also loved their entrance into the reception as everyone tossed paper airplanes! If you know Christie & Shawn, it was such a cute and perfect idea for them!

We loved how the ceremony and reception were both intimate affairs with Shawn and Christie’s closest friends and family. They spent the evening laughing and dancing. We are so thrilled to not only be Christie & Shawn’s wedding photographers but to also be their friends! Congratulations, and we hope you enjoy the special slideshow at the end! : )

I must have cake on the brain lately! On our last Wedding Wednesday, I shared some ideas for cake toppers. Yesterday, I shared an article from Get Married about how to schedule a cake tasting on our Facebook page.

This week, I thought I’d share some more photos from the cake designed by Metro Custom Cakes for Tey & Mike’s wedding at Palm Valley Gardens. If you saw their wedding, you know that it was full of gorgeous details. Aside from the Vera Wang gown and the Jimmy Choos, there was another WOW detail that I think deserves a little more attention, and that is this stunning cake! When I saw it, I was in awe! The detail on this cake is truly impressive, and I think it deserves it’s own chance to shine on our blog! When I talked to the cake designer, Trisha, she said that it took 4 hours to do the lace design on this cake! Talk about attention to detail! This is a company that creates not just delicious tasting cakes, but works of art!

It really was a stunning cake and almost too beautiful to eat! But I can vouch that it tasted just as beautiful as it looked! When the cake comes from Metro Custom Cakes, we always make sure to have a slice. After all, how else could we give such an enthusiastic recommendation?! : )
