Last week, I took part in an underwater photography class, and it was the most fun and challenging photography shoot I’ve ever done! You’d think that the hardest part about shooting underwater would be getting the settings right, or maybe even being able to hold your breath, but I found the biggest challenge to be staying under water! Once I went under my body immediately wanted to come back up, so I had to find ways to push myself down and stay down. I even tried crossing my legs “Indian style” and sinking the bottom. I could only stay under for a few seconds at a time, and trying to time that with the model going under the water and framing the shot was almost impossible. Normally that would be frustrating, but honestly I can’t wait to do it again!

Thanks so much to Erika Thornes, Carrie Mundy, and Brett Lind for organizing this shoot, and to our incredible models/mermaids for being such beautiful subjects to photograph! Erika and Carrie also let us shoot on their cameras (which was already set), so I can only take partial credit for my shots. Thank you soooo much for sharing your gear and for sending out the shots!

Ah… I think I am in love with underwater photography! It’s a whole new world of possibilities!

Yesterday was the first day of summer and a beautiful day for Julie & Garrett’s wedding at the New Haven Lawn Club! We can’t wait to share their stunning details, but first here is a peak of the happy couple!

We are so excited to see Kristine & Zach’s destination wedding in Savannah featured on the Oh-Brides Wedding Magazine blog today! Their wedding was so sweet and perfect, from all the details to the emotions and, of course, our gorgeous couple! They held their wedding at Whitefield Chapel at the Bethesda Academy and their reception at Vic’s on the River, a fantastic venue in downtown Savannah overlooking the river. Seeing their wedding again makes me swoon. Such a romantic southern wedding!

We enjoyed working with Serendipity Weddings & Events on this one, who coordinated and also did the floral design! The pops of color in those bouquets… I die every time I see them! Stunning!!

Hot couple. Hot car. What else do you need for an engagement session?

We had fun shooting Katie & Jason’s engagement photos in Fallbrook last week! Their session took place on their beautiful property, which is also where the wedding will be held! We can’t wait to see how it will look this fall when they say “I do!” Until then, here’s a preview of this super adorable couple!

Here’s a quick sneak peek of Katie & Jason’s engagement photos in Fallbrook! After the shoot they took the Mustang out for a drive, just like their very first date! : )

Wedding Wednesday is a weekly feature discussing all things wedding-related! To suggest a topic or question, contact Gwen at This week for Wedding Wednesday we have guest blogger Sheila of SNF Makeup Artistry with some tips for looking your best on your wedding day!

A few steps to ensuring a GORGEOUS makeup look for your wedding day:

First – be sure to address any skin issues a few months prior to your wedding day. If you have exhausted all your drugstore resources, then it is crucial that you make an appointment with your dermatologist. They will likely take 15 minutes to evaluate your skin, write up a prescription and send you on your way. Sometimes, your dermatologist will request a cortisone shot, this is really the quickest most efficient way to get rid of those painful and embarrassing pimples. It will shrink in minutes!

Second – schedule your trial with your makeup artist. Be sure to look through pictures and send them to your makeup artist ahead of time. Your trial appointment should last anywhere from one to two hours and really is your time to be creative and open minded. Try all the looks you would like to see on yourself, start with the lightest, and work your way up to the more dramatic look. Take pictures of each look and let your makeup artist know which one is your wedding day look. Also, do not be shy or afraid to explain in detail to your makeup artist what you do and DO NOT like. We are professionals and we appreciate the feedback because we understand that each persons idea of natural or dramatic can be completely different then ours.

Third – a few days before your wedding. Be sure to keep yourself hydrated! Drink lots of water; your face will thank you and so will your makeup artist. Also, try to fit a message in your schedule or get in a yoga class, anything that will make you relax and keep calm. The days before your wedding should be the beginning of your celebration, enjoy it.

Lastly, – wedding day. Your makeup artist will have a thorough write up followed with photos of your desired makeup look; from the blush color to the type of lashes you picked. He/she should have it completely under control so you sit in your glam chair, drink your mimosa and enjoy your wedding day!

Sheila in action during our shoot last Saturday

Last week we met up with Rachel & Jon again for their super sweet engagement photos in San Diego! We started their engagement photos in Belmont Park, which was a perfect place for showing Rachel & Jon’s fun and playful personalities! After a ride on the carousel, we walked over to the beach for some more photos. Earlier in the day it felt like summer, but by late afternoon it turned cloudy and chilly, so these two had to snuggle up to keep warm. Somehow, we don’t think they minded! : )

After sunset we finished up their engagement photos in downtown San Diego. Downtown brings back special memories between it’s where Jon proposed to Rachel! Now here, on a chilly evening, they were cuddled up together, less than two months away from becoming Mr. and Mrs.! They are back home in Sacramento now (such a cool city!!) but we can’t wait for their next trip down here when they tie the knot! Their wedding is sure to be sweet and full of fun times! : )
