A lot of things go into how a couple is defined. It’s the way they look at each other, little gestures between each other, their friends and family, and their style. For Maricel and EJ, they have a young, hip, urban style that not only makes them one of the hottest couples I’ve ever seen, but one of the most stylish and unique.

I wasn’t able to meet Maricel and EJ until their rehearsal dinner in Chino Hills, CA. Gwen had been fortunate enough to meet them at Jenny & Miguel’s wedding celebration last October and then again for an amazing engagement session in Las Vegas, NV in March. From those images alone, I knew Maricel and EJ not only had a unique style, but energy between them that was going to be fun to capture.

Maricel and EJ have a love of sports, activity, and being social. Their urban style is brought out in their love of shoes, especially Nike Air Jordans, which EJ got as a wedding present and was extremely excited about. I met up with him and his guys at the Double Tree hotel in Anaheim to take some getting ready shots. The plan was for the guys to play a little basketball after the wedding ceremony, and the guys were primed, each guy having their own monogrammed bags and new sneakers, all gifts from Mars and EJ. There was an especially sweet moment when one of EJ’s best men ushered the guys out of the room so EJ could have a quiet moment to read Mars’ note to him. I could tell that EJ was trying to keep his composure as he read Mars’ words.

Meanwhile, Mars was at her mother’s home in West Covina, CA, surrounded by her girls, getting into her fabulous wedding dress. As she came down the stairs, her girls’ reactions were priceless, her own excitement at marrying her sweetheart reflected in their faces. It was impossible for them to look at how beautiful and happy their best friend was and not shed a tear of joy.

Maricel and EJ had picked the amazing St. Paul the Apostle church in Chino Hills for their ceremony. The church has an open and expansive sanctuary, with huge windows to let in lots of beautiful, soft light and a unique, modern altar that provided a beautiful backdrop. After being escorted in by her parents and then up to the altar by EJ, the two took communion together, shared a rope and veil ceremony with the help of their loved ones, and vowed to always stand by each other in the presence of God. It was touching, emotional, and special, highlighted by the little looks of excitement that passed between them as they knelt at the altar.

After the ceremony, the entire wedding party packed into a limo and headed to secluded park nearby for some of the most fun and hot group shots we’ve ever taken. To say this group was rocking is an understatement. With their cool shoes, hot shades, and sexy poses, the wedding party showed us what urban CA style is all about. And while the ladies did their thing, including some really fun shots of Mars playing tennis in her dress, the guys finally got to hoop it up, doing some lay-up drills, and throwing out their best aerial moves.

Mars and EJ’s reception was held back at the Double Tree. Their reception included a photo booth, a candy station, and a gorgeous cake from Rockwell’s Bakery. Their night featured touching speeches by EJ’s two best men and Mars’ two matrons of honor, with plenty of tears all around, a sweet first dance between them, touching dances with their parents, and a fun money dance. But the highlight of the evening was a slideshow that had everyone laughing and crying. The slideshow just highlighted how special Mars and EJ are and how much they mean to all their friends and family.

Mars and EJ, thanks so much for trusting us with this important day in your lives! We are sooooo jealous of the beautiful photos you’ve posted from your honeymoon in Cabo! So glad you had a wonderful time! We hope to see you both again soon!! : )

You might remember Christie & Mike from their St. Augustine engagement photos last fall. We received a lot of comments on the photo of Mike playing his guitar and singing to Christie in front of the Castillo de San Marcos. It was such a romantic engagement session, and we have been anxiously awaiting their wedding day!

When the day finally arrived, the girls all began their day with hair, makeup, and mimosas at the stylish Salon La Vie. Christie’s hair. styled by Linda, was put into an elegant updo and accented with a gorgeous hair hair pin. Her look was completed with makeup by Jordan, giving her a soft and natural, glowing look!

While the girls were getting glam at the salon, the guys were hanging out at the Ponte Vedra Lodge. Matt met up with them to get a few photos before everyone headed to the church.

Christie & Mike chose to have their wedding at Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church. It was such a gorgeous location with a spacious sanctuary and a lot of natural light. The wedding was officiated by Pastor George Johnson, one of the funniest pastors we have ever met! The ceremony included a very personal touch with a performance by Mike’s father, who sang and played his guitar.

Following the ceremony, the wedding party and family were escorted by Susie’s Limo to the next part of the wedding at Marsh Landing Country Club. Guests were entertained by the sounds of the incredible Faze Band! We really love shooting weddings with the Faze Band because they are so entertaining and keep the crowd moving all night!

As we were photographing the cake, I stopped because it smelled so delicious! The cake was created by Metro Custom Cakes, and though we have shot weddings with their masterpieces before this is the first time I ever tried one of their cakes. It was heavenly! The piece I tried was chocolate with chocolate chips and cherries. It was to die for, and I don’t even like cherries! Absolutely delicious cake and an excellent choice by Christie & Mike! Major kudos on the chocolate/cherry combo!

We’ve been waiting for Christie & Mike’s return from their honeymoon to post the wedding photos. We welcome them back and hope you had a wonderful time on their trip! : )

Happy Monday everyone! We just returned from Savannah (you’ll find out why later this week) but we couldn’t wait to return so we could post some Jacksonville engagement photos that we shot before we left!

We met up with Latoya & Clarence on a gorgeous afternoon! We began shooting at Jacksonville Beach and immediately we found out that they were not camera shy at all! From the beginning, they were playful and flirty, so we just clicked away! The beach was still busy for being so late in the afternoon, but we found a piece of beach to use and then once the pier cleared out we headed over there for some more photos before walking around to some of the fun walls around the beach.

After the beach, we went downtown to get some sunset/night shots. It turned out to be quite an amazing sunset, and the best view we got was from on top of the Main Street Bridge! Since we figured people would wonder if we added color to the sky (which we are asked a lot) we thought we would post the original shot with the edited one side by side (see below). Everything just worked out so well for this session that it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite engagement sessions!

Latoya & Clarence, thanks so much for making this session so much fun! We hope you enjoyed it, too, and we can’t wait until 2011!! : )

We get a lot of people who say our photos are so vibrant and some ask if we add color to them, so I thought I’d post an original (left) and an edited photo (right) side by side. The color has more to do with how we shoot the photo (choice of lens, camera settings, lighting, etc.). In our post processing we add a pinch more color, but the punchy look comes from adjusting the brightness and contrast.

We posted a sneak peek of Cassandra & Terrance’s photos on Facebook at around 5am this morning. By the time I woke up, they had over 30 comments already! Anyone who has met Cassandra & Terrance can understand why they are so loved by friends and family. They are so genuine and caring and the love between them, well, the photos below attest to the strength of their love. It’s the way they look at each other and laugh together that says they have a love that will last!

We had so much fun shooting these photos! One thing we learned about Cassandra & Terrance is that they LOVE to shop! Yes, Cassandra you know you have a keeper when your hubby-to-be loves to shop as much as you! ; )

I can’t believe we have to wait a whole year to see Cassandra & Terrance say “I do!” We’ve been talking to them since last year and I am so anxious to see them get married because you can tell they were meant for each other. We love being around you guys and even though a year seems far away we know it will be here sooner than you know it! In the meantime, we look forward to getting to know you even better and can’t wait to meet all of your loving friends & family!

Today, we share with you the final part of Stephanie & Dave’s wedding day – the reception! They held this part of the wedding at the Bayfront Mansion House, which was so beautiful as the sun set and every partied the night away! There were candles lining the dock and floating in the pool. Stephanie’s friend, Amy, spent the entire day organizing everything with all of the vendors. The tent, table & chairs, and lighting were all provided by St. Johns Illuminations. The gorgeous 8-tier cake was created by Sweet Weddings, a gourmet cake shop in St. Augustine. Catering for the reception was provided by Chef Pratt of Chefs For A Night, who spent the whole day cooking away in the Bayfront Mansion kitchen!

Stephanie, Dave, and all their guests were entertained through the night by live band Think Big out of Orlando. These guys were phenomenal and kept everyone dancing all night long! It was such a fun reception with tons of laughter and even a few tears as some of Stephanie & Dave’s closest friends gave heartwarming speeches. One of my favorite parts of the evening was when Dave removed Stephanie’s Steelers garter with no hands! : )

And we didn’t think it would really happen, but it did! Some of the guys, including Dave, ended up in the pool! I grabbed my camera and kept saying to Matt, “I think they’re going to throw him in the pool. They’re totally going in the pool! Let’s go!” It was awesome!!

We hope that everyone enjoyed looking at the wedding highlights. Here’s a quick link back to the other posts about Stephanie & Dave:

Wedding rehearsal dinners are such intimate events. We love watching families come together in celebration on the eve of the big day! Last Friday, Stephanie & Dave’s family and friends gathered for their rehearsal dinner at the Lightner Museum’s Sala Menendez Room. Sounds of laughter and the clinking of glasses filled the room as stories about the happy couple were shared among the tables. Dave’s parents gave some very heartfelt, but sound, advice to the couple to wish them both happiness and a successful marriage. And to add to the celebration, Stephanie’s father as well as Dave’s father and grandmother were all celebrating birthdays around the same time! Such a happy weekend! : )

The Lightner Museum was such a great setting for the rehearsal and set the tone for Stephanie & Dave’s St. Augustine wedding! The gates were closed and the Sala Menendez Room and Lightner Museum courtyard were theirs for the evening. Everyone chatted during the cocktail hour, admiring the courtyard and marveling at the colorful koi. Stephanie’s mom made these beautiful lamp centerpieces using wine bottles and labels which included their St. Augustine engagement photos! Each one had cute little phrases on it, adding a really personal touch and creating the perfect mood during dinner, which was catered by A1A Ale Works.

The Best Man and Matron of Honor had Stephanie & Dave play a game where they had to answer questions about themselves as a couple using Ken and Barbie dolls! For example: “Who is better looking?” It was so hilarious, especially the times when they disagreed on the answers! And though Dave is a very handsome guy, I have to say Stephanie was looking smokin’ hot at the rehearsal with her cute pink and black dress and killer heels!! She also had her makeup done by Faythe Mesic for the occasion!

I just finished watching the slideshow. The first time, I almost cried. The second time, I REALLY had to fight it. Stephanie & Dave are such an incredible couple and we really enjoyed getting to know their friends and family on Friday evening and Saturday during the wedding. We always judge how good a wedding was by how exhausted we are the next day, and I’ll just say it took us about 3 days to catch up on rest from this one! It was THAT much fun! And there are so many gorgeous details and so many parts to their wedding day that I think we may have to break it up into multiple blog posts! So be sure to check back next week for their stunning wedding details!

Until then, here’s a glimpse at this wonderful couple and an evening with those closest to their hearts:

We are so fortunate to meet some amazing people through our photography, but we’re truly blessed when those people become friends. When we first met Michelle & Josh for their engagement photos in Plano, TX, we wished that we didn’t live 16 hours away from them! But Facebook has helped bridged the distance between us!

We were really excited to see them again for their destination wedding in Hilton Head, SC. They held the wedding at the Crowne Plaza Resort Hilton Head Island, a gorgeous resort on the beach that showcased the natural beauty of the island. Michelle & Josh made the wedding very special with a lot of personal touches. The ceremony was officiated by Josh’s father, the Reverend Franklin D. Wilson Sr. from Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in McKinney, TX. The processional and recessional was performed by Josh’s brother, Josiah, and his wife, Candace. They were Vocal Performance majors in college and performed the song “Lucky” by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. As Michelle & Josh walked past their guests for the first time ever as husband and wife, they immediately went into their first dance on the beach. It was such a beautiful, unique idea! But one of my favorite personal touches from their wedding was more subtle. Michelle wrapped her father’s dog tags around her bouquet to honor his memory. As she walked down the aisle on the arm of her brother, Daniel, she knew that her father was also with her. It was so moving!

Another thing I love about their wedding is the colors! Michelle & Josh asked all of their guests to wear different shades of blue to the wedding. And Michelle’s gorgeous bouquet from A Floral Affair perfectly matched the the sand and the periwinkle blue ocean. Toward sunset, the sky turned a brilliant blue. It was such a spectacular setting for photos, and we’re so happy that the sun came out for their destination wedding!

We think after seeing these photos you’ll see why Michelle & Josh are so special! They are so full of laughter and love and we are so happy that we met them! In addition to our excitement about sharing these beautiful wedding photos, we’re also thrilled to say that today is Michelle’s birthday! We already started celebrating over here on the East Coast an hour ago, but now it’s officially Michelle’s birthday in Texas, too! We wish you the happiest birthday and congratulate you and Josh on your nuptials! And let’s make sure we plan that trip to meet “half way” in New Orleans soon!! We miss you guys! : )

Yesterday, we posted Monica & Mike’s romantic Eleuthera destination wedding photos! It warms my heart every time I look at their photos because it’s so apparent how happy and in love they are! It’s hard to even describe their wedding day because I get lost in looking at the photos and smiling. I think their faces tell the story better than I can!

So to tell more of the story, we’re happy to present their slideshow! I’ve watched it so many times already. In fact, I just paused to watch it again. Their love is so inspiring! If you want to feel all warm and fuzzy, watch along with me…

We first met Shannon & Dave back in 2008 when we shot their engagement photos in downtown Pittsburgh, and since then we’ve gotten to know them better and have been anxiously awaiting the BIG day! Sometimes I think we get almost as excited as the couple, especially when we’ve developed a relationship with them over such a long period! : )

After the anticipation, Shannon & Dave’s wedding did not disappoint! In fact, it was one of the funnest weddings we’ve ever shot! We may be biased, but we just think that no one quite knows how to party like people from the Burgh! So it only makes sense that this Pittsburgh wedding was one insanely fun celebration where everyone let loose!

Here are the vendors that helped make their day perfect:

Ceremony: Community of Christ Church – Bethel Park, PA
Reception: The Georgetown Centre – Pleasant Hills, PA
DJ: Wenning Entertainment
Transportation: Exceptional Limousine
Floral Arrangements: Brides & Butterflies

Before you even see the photos, let me paint this picture for you… the theme was very Irish and very Pittsburgh. The wedding took place the weekend after St. Patrick’s Day (Shannon’s favorite holiday) and there were Irish elements throughout the wedding (including a rockin’ recessional to U2’s “Beautiful Day” – SAH-WEEET!!!). It was also the first weekend of spring, and we were blessed with GORGEOUS sunny weather! A week prior there were still piles of ugly snow/ice around but it all melted away before the big day! And last, but not least, in true Pittsburgh style there was some black and gold included in the wedding! Shannon wore a Pens garter and Dave and all the groomsmen put on Crosby jerseys once the formal photos were over. So you get an idea of how fun this wedding was! It was SO fun that guests from the other wedding going on at the Georgetown Centre came over and crashed Shannon & Dave’s wedding! Seriously! We definitely had the best DJ and the room was rockin’, so who can blame them? Ah, good times!

The highlight of the wedding was probably Shannon & Dave’s son, Dayton. He really stole the show, especially when he sang and danced to 3 Michael Jackson songs at the reception. Oh, did I mention that he’s only 3 years old?!?!?! Yeah! It was HILARIOUS! Be sure to watch the outtakes at the end of the slideshow! I promise you won’t want to miss it! : )

Don’t forget the outtakes at the end of the slideshow! Enjoy!! : )

When we met Stephanie & Dave about a year ago we began talking about shooting their St. Augustine engagement photos at the airplane graveyard. A couple friends of mine did sessions there and since then others have followed. It’s one of the coolest locations in North Florida (okay, THE coolest location). And since Dave is a pilot, we HAD to shoot there!

But before hitting the graveyard, we walked the streets of St. Augustine and talked about their wedding day. I really want to tell you all about the incredible plans they have for the perfect St. Augustine wedding, but you’ll just have to wait until next month when the wedding happens! I will just say it’s going to be gorgeous!!!

We took photos throughout the Oldest City, including a stop at the Lightner Museum (where they will hold their rehearsal dinner). Stephanie & Dave are so laid back and cute and flirty together that the photos just happened naturally. We spent most of the afternoon chatting and enjoying some beautiful Florida weather! The guys talked a lot about planes and basketball, of course!

I’m just grinning looking at these photos! Aren’t they so adorable together?! Don’t forget to watch their slideshow at the end! : )

Such a cute moment between Stephanie & Dave…

… but I think I like this one better! It wasn’t until after we looked at the photos on the computer that I noticed the alien painted on the side of the plane. Nice!! : )

I adore this shot taken by Matt!
