One of the big trends in wedding colors we are seeing right now is shades of grey. Whether is is light or even closer to charcoal, have a grey in your palette can really make your other colors pop. A classic combo is baby pink and grey but a very popular option is bright yellow. The great thing about grey is that it fits with any season. You can still have your rich, bold colors for fall and summer or go lighter for winter and spring.

I’m a big fan of going monochromatic and a touch of grey really adds something interesting to the look. You can pick a grey bridesmaid dress and then add your color with shoes and florals. If you like the idea of grey but you don’t want that much of it, you can add a few select pieces like jewelry or a swanky clutch to create a sophisticated feel.

This week’s Wedding Wednesday post was written by one of our grooms, Jeff. We asked him to tell us about his experience doing a “First Look” on the wedding day. You can view some of their downtown Nashville wedding photos here!

——————————————-

So, I have to admit, when Gwen and Matt first suggested to us that we should do a “first look” as part of the schedule of photography for our wedding day, although my bride was on board with the idea from the get go, I was dead set, adamantly against it. It went against all the freaky superstitions, it was wrong, it is not meant to be for the bride and groom to see each other BEFORE the wedding! It’s bad luck, right? Why would I do that? NO NO NO NO NO!

After some discussion with my fiancée I agreed to give it some thought….. I thought about it for the months to come, and particularly with ours being a night time low light wedding, We wanted to make sure we had the optimal lighting for the pictures we would remember FOREVER when looking back on our day! “No No No” but it made a little sense right? I mean, we are in 2010, not the 50’s right? NO!NO! well…maybe…I mean Jessi is ok with it…..but, what about the music? The nervous butterflies? OK, I will think about it some more.

I finally conceded “defeat” (or so I thought at the time) and said we would do our first look, as long as I could play music when my bride walked in. For me, it was about that moment, and all of the senses that go into it. The music playing, the decorations, the smell of the air, the feeling when I would see my bride for the very first time. So, we decided to have our first look in the very spot where we would have the wedding! A “dress rehearsal” of what would come just hours later.

OK, I admit it I was wrong to be so against the “first look”! We hit the music, I had my back turned, Gwen and Matt were snapping pictures, the music was playing, the sun was shining, and the butterflies were all over the place in my stomach as I turned around to see the most beautiful bride in the whole wide world! We were both so glad to not have to worry about 100 people seeing us, as we saw each other , and it gave us both the chance to enjoy a moment we would cherish for the rest of our lives. Plus, with the Nashville Sun shining down, and as much time as we needed, the pictures were of course unbelievable! So, for a guy who considers himself to be pretty old fashion when it came to weddings, I am certainly grateful that we had our “first look” moment all to ourselves!

This week for Wedding Wednesday we are thrilled to have Nancy Mazzucco of I Do Wedding Consulting as our guests blogger! Nancy is not only an amazingly talented wedding coordinator, she’s also a dear friend of ours and a former bride (click here to see her Azul Beach Hotel wedding photos). We adore Nancy, and recently she set up an inspiration shoot which we blogged about yesterday! As both a wedding coordinator AND a recent bride, she has a lot of great information to share. This week, she’s sharing some super cute ideas to help give your wedding a personal touch!

—————————————————————————————————

Every wedding is a celebration of two individuals proclaiming their undying love and devotion for one another, there is certainly no denying that. But let’s face it: you want to make YOUR wedding the best, the most unique, to have or do something that no one else has done before. Sometimes it seems we might even want to go above and beyond the last wedding we obsessed over {is that so bad, I mean, your big day only happens once, right?!}. So what makes a wedding swoon worthy? Well, in my opinion, it is the personal touch in all the little details that the couple threads through their ceremony, reception, cocktail parties, after parties, you know what I mean! Here are some websites and ideas that have totally inspired me; some small, some big, but all of these have made me think {WOW}! Enjoy the inspiration along with some of my favorite ways people have added that special touch to their Big Day.

{WEDDING BEE }: Totally inspiring Bees come up with crazy cool ideas for little personal touches that can be doused all over the place. I love these Tears of Joy Tissue packets Mrs. Sunrise made and the wonderful tutorial she gave. These are cute and practical, need I say more?

DIY Wedding Ideas

{What woman doesn’t shed a tear at a wedding?!}

Want to make your guests say “Holy Martha Stewart!” before they even get to the wedding? There’s nothing more heartfelt then receiving a handwritten note from the Bride and Groom along with your welcome bag. Okay, so this may not be practical for every Bride if you don’t have a lot of time, or if you have a few hundred guests, but if you can swing it, this is sure to leave a lasting impression!

{PROGRAMS} I know, sometimes even I think these can be a waste of paper, but if they are creative, fun, and most of all, reflective of the Bride and Groom’s style, it makes me warm and fuzzy! Check out Intimate Weddings for fabulous inspiration and ideas like the tutorial on how to make your own puzzle program fans. I absolutely heart these, and no, it doesn’t have anything to do with my insane love for Mad Libs! These are pretty, fun, and functional and I love how there are three different puzzles on the back design for everyone to enjoy!

Check out Miss Oatmeal’s post showing inspiration she used to incorporate her Hubs To Be passion for puzzles! Love it!

{LoveSmartDesign on Etsy}

{ETSY} THE place to find a bazillion wonderful artists, designers, and creators extraordinaire that make amazing and beautiful crafts for us to flaunt! You can often get great deals on jewelry, purses, hair flowers, fascinators, you name it, they have it! It’s much more unique to have one-of-a-kind creations then buying a similar item from a chain bridal store. {Just saying!}
{PERFECT PERSONALIZATION} It’s way easy to personalize wedding items, with sites like The Knot, Get Married, and Exclusively Weddings, you can order just about anything featuring your John Hancock. So when I come across something like this….

…..it puts a big fat smile on my face! Now this is personalization with style and pizazz! I just adore how fun and creative these are. It’s one thing to have personalized beer labels, but to have brewed the beer yourself, {SERIOUSLY} fantastic! Props to my old college buddy Alison {we attended UVM together} who created these for her wedding! She just so happens to be a badass floral designer in VT. Check out her post explaining the meaning behind her creative awesomeness.

{DESIGN TIP} Want to make a WOW statement, without a WOW budget? I have two words for you. Colored. Tablecloths. Tables take up the most square feet at a reception and make the biggest design impact when you use a colored or textured tablecloth. A great balance to stunning linens is a sweet and simple centerpiece {and you can never go wrong with candles}. You love bright colors and fun fabrics? I say, go for it! Put your flair in all the bits and pieces and let your personalities shine!

Every girl dreams of marrying a prince, so it’s no wonder so many of us ladies are caught up in Royal Wedding mania! Seldom do we get such an in-depth look into the wedding of a famous person, so the opportunity to share in Kate and Prince William’s special day is so exciting! Kate will make a stunning bride, and I’m so anxious to see what she will wear and how it will influence bridal fashion! I’m sure that Kate has chosen a gown that is very modest and tasteful, but full of elegance befitting a princess. The details of her gown have been carefully guarded, even to the point of there being a decoy just in case the gown is “discovered.”

While everyone is making their predictions of what Kate will wear, I thought we’d take a look at some of our own princess brides and how they looked like royalty on their big day!

The Jewels
When it comes to wedding day jewelry, most brides fall into one of three categories: 1) no necklace at all 2) classic pearls or 3) all out bling. I picture Kate not wearing a necklace on her wedding day. She seems very reserved and I don’t think she’d want to be over the top flashy as she becomes a princess. But I’m a girl who is a fan of the bling, so I say one your wedding day go all out with the sparkle!

Tiaras
Whether you choose a headpiece or tiara, every princess should adorn her head with more sparkle!

The Dress
If you were to close your eyes right now and picture a princess on her wedding day, I’m sure you’d imagine a big puffy gown with a long, flowing train. I’m sure we can expect to see the same from Kate, though my guess is that her dress will also include sleeves.

Cathedral Length Veil
Is there anything more elegant than a long veil? With a long train, you need a veil to complement it!

Gloves
We don’t see gloves nearly enough, but they add such a classic touch a bride’s look! Dainty, delicate, feminine, and very regal!

The Prince
You can’t be a princess without a prince! It’s expected that Prince William will wear his Royal Air Force uniform, as is tradition in royal weddings. I think military uniforms beat tuxedos any day. What do you think?

Castles
I don’t know about you, but I still haven’t given up on the dream of living in a castle someday! Or at least visiting one! After the fairytale wedding, why not plan a honeymoon abroad and stay at a castle? Talk about romantic! Sigh…

And they lived Happily Ever After!
Regardless of all the other details, the most important part of the fairytale is the happily ever after!

Unveiling the fabulousness of Veil options!

An option to consider…Veils have some what lost their luster in the recent trending of modern weddings. We see brides-to-be nearly everyday in our salons that are wavering over the decision…To veil or not to veil?

There are tons of factors to consider when deciding which, or even if, a veil is right for you. Venue, propriety of event, and possible religious or cultural demands all play a factor in this important choice. But, the great thing about modern weddings and wedding attire is that, like I have said a million times before, there are no rules except the ones you choose to set for your own “I-DO” day! Of course it is important to respect your surroundings and take into consideration certain factors, but the fantastic world of modern veils has taken a huge leap in the fashion forward direction, and you should absolutely take a look around before nixing the whole idea all together.

In the market for a veil? You may want to check out a few of these options.

For the dramatically divine ceremony, consider a Cathedral length veil.
Cathedral length veils are definitely a statement piece! If you are looking to dazzle your guests, adorn yourself with this veil choice and wait to hear the gasps of delight as you take your fabulous stride down the aisle! Bonus, these lengthy veils make for some breathtaking wedding photo ops…

For the less dramatic, yet true traditionalist with a modern twist, consider fingertip of elbow length selections.
If you are looking to add a traditional element to your “I-Dos” a fingertip or elbow length may be just the right choice to unveil to your guests on your special day! They add just the right amount of elegance and class, and could be the right fit for you!

For the modern, chic, and unique bride looking to spice up her day, consider the ohh-so-funky birdcage veil.
A little bit retro and whole lot stunning, this modern take on the veil has to be a personal favorite of mine! Add a feathered hair piece along with this spectacular shaped veil, and you will be every bit of fabulosity modern bridal has to offer! Retro, modern, and definitely stunning! What more could you ask for?

Whether you are all about a veil the length of your ceremony aisle, or you are looking for a bedazzled and feathered modern take on the trend, there is a veil out there waiting for you! Before you decide you are not the veil type, make sure to check out the abundance of options that are out there and I think you just might find one that tickles your bridal fancy!

Enjoy!

One of our favorite things to do after a wedding is a Trash The Dress session (or a Day After session). We have several scheduled for this year (mostly for destination weddings) so we thought we would share a few thoughts about why you should add a Day After/Trash The Dress session to your photography package!

More Relaxed Setting
The wedding day is usually pretty hectic and includes a tight schedule. Most couples schedule some time between the ceremony and reception to do some photos, but more often than not it’s not enough time. Besides, it’s tough to concentrate on photos when you’re ready to party! A day-after session is a great chance to take pictures in a more relaxed setting without all the hustle and bustle.

A Chance to Get Creative
Let’s face it, most brides are concerned about getting that white wedding dress dirty on the wedding day. But you’re going spend a ton of money to get it cleaned anyways, so why not try something fun and creative by doing a day-after photo session. The phrase “Trash the Dress” gets thrown out there a lot, but it doesn’t actually mean you have to destroy your wedding dress. A “Trash the Dress” or “Day After” session can be whatever you want, from going into a field to finding some cool urban settings.

Show Your Personality
You’ve got that amazing dress, why not show it off! And a great way to do that is use some of your favorite accessories. Have a hot pair of shoes? Wear them with your wedding dress. Have some cool jewelry pieces? Perfect! A Day-After session will let your personality shine. One of my favorite examples is one of our brides who’s a total cowgirl at heart. She wanted to take photos in her dress with her favorite pair of cowgirl boots, her cowgirl hat, and her awesome denim jacket. The photos were totally her style and personality and let her have a lot of fun with her wedding dress.

The ever classic debate ensues to this day. Which color wedding gown should you choose? Stark white? Maybe ivory… Or even champagne? Are there rules? What if you absolutely love one color, but don’t feel it is appropriate for the season or the setting?

Not to worry beautiful yet baffled brides-to-be! Solutions Bridal is here to offer our services! This classic color debate is something we see in our salons nearly every day. Brides are always on the search for their dream gown, but many find themselves stumped by this oh so important question. Which color gown should I select?

Each of the gowns we carry in our stores come in a variety of color selections, which is typical for any special order bridal salon. Trust us when we say that this is a good thing, because as a bride, you definitely want to have the most options possible even if it makes the decision making process slightly more difficult for the time being. If you are somewhat confused about the correct color selection of your dreams, take into consideration a few factors before deciding.

Consider skin tone as a huge factor in the decision making process.
Skin tone is unique to every individual, and this means that not every shade of white or ivory is going to look stunning on every bride. There is absolutely that one shade of wedding gown that will compliment you flawlessly, and you should not stop until you find the shade that makes you feel like the best you possible! If you are at a bridal salon, ask the stylists to show you swatches of the gown colors available. Here at Solutions Bridal, we have multiple folders filled to the brim with swatches of every shade of white, ivory, champagne, and ever other color you could think of! Not every gown comes in every color, so if you are set on a certain shade of gown that is unique. You don’t want to fall in love with a gown, only to find out you can’t get it in your perfect hue. Make sure the gowns you try on are available in this ideal shade to avoid confusion and frustration.

Ceremony setting is important, but don’t let the site select the color.
Many of our brides are very concerned with the setting of their ceremony and color of their gown clashing. They worry that if they are not in a stark white dress, their classic church ceremony will be in shambles, or if they do not choose a champagne gown, their vintage night time wedding will not have a consistent theme. Although you do want to make sure your gown is appropriate for your setting, the only thing you need make sure you love when you select a gown color is how it looks on you! The shape of the gown, material, and design can all factor into the appropriateness of the gown, but whatever shade you select will work wonderfully with the “I-Dos” if you feel comfortable and confident in your gown’s fit and color. The setting of your wedding can absolutely influence your gown choice, but your love and absolute adoration of how you look and feel in the dress should be the main decision making influence. This is your day to look and feel the most beautiful you have ever felt in your life, and no setting or building should determine the gown you wear.

The time of your wedding and ceremony is just that, a time!
Just because your ceremony is set to begin at nightfall on a delightful Saturday evening does not mean you need to have a champagne gown! Likewise, just because you are having a Spring inspired garden ceremony does not mean stark white is the limitation to your gown color. Although you do want to make sure you feel comfortable in your gown choice, there are no set rules that govern the wedding gown style, design, length, or color any more! One of my personal favorite things about weddings is the fact that every wedding is so incredibly unique. Each bride has the chance to express herself through each and every detail of her Big Day. Don’t let a silly factor like time on a clock deter you away from the gown color of your dreams or the one that compliments your tone and personality the best. Just be you when selecting that oh so fabulous dream dress, and the rest will fall into place perfectly.

The best piece of advice I can offer in regards to any aspect of choosing a wedding gown is to get out there and try them on! As always, you never know until you try. Try on as many shapes, styles, colors, and options as possible, if you are not sure of where to start and don’t stop until you find the one that wows you. If you are a simplest and have always pictured yourself in a stark white ballgown on your special day you should absolutely select the ballgown of your dreams. Similarly, if you are a daring bride that feels the fire to marry the love of your life in a hot pink mini, I support that just as much! Do not worry about any of the set rules you think exist when choosing your ideal gown. As long as you feel like the most incredibly confident, beautiful, and chic woman in the world on your wedding day, everyone else will love the dress as well!

The classic rice and bird seed toss at the end of a wedding can be quite the exit. However, remember that what goes up must come down, and picking bird seed out of your hair and dress can be a bit uncomfortable. Thankfully, recent alternate trends are taking this fun tradition to a new level of excitement and style!

There are countless options to chose from that can really spice up your exit, and I thought I would share some of the classic and creative ideas I found in my search!

For the eco-friendly inspired couple!

I love the idea of creating your very own personalized, eco-friendly confetti to use as an updated tosser! It is an easy and unique way to incorporate your personal style into the day while also keeping a green approach! There are a ton of websites that offer the service, so making is happen is easy and good for the environment.

For the show stopping sparkling couple!

Wow your guests with this dazzling departure! Whether your special day falls on a holiday, or you are just looking to stand out, sparklers are perfect for an evening exit and are sure to make your special day shine like no other!

For the funky and fun-loving couple!

Using uniquely you items like feathers, colored cotton balls, or glitter can transform your traditional exit to a creative and fabulous level of whimsical in no time. I love the couple that incorporated paper airplanes into their ceremony! All of these items are just plain fantastically fun.

For the wildly romantic couple!

If genuine romance is more your personal taste, think of releasing butterflies or throwing an abundance of rose petals or your favorite flowers as you make your departure. This sweet and sentimental gesture screams undying love, and will definitely add a touch of classic with a twist to your wedding tosser option.

The possibilities are endless with wedding tossers, and this is one aspect of your wedding that you can truly personalize to fit your taste!
