On my last trip to San Diego, I made a brief stop by Mission San Diego. It was late at night and I was alone and so scared out of my mind! I thought I was being ridiculous, but on this trip Matt and I both went to the mission (again, at night) and he even agreed with me it was a little creepy!

We were able to visit 3 of California’s missions and went on a tour of one of them. We definitely don’t have anything like this on the East Coast! Definitely worth checking out if you’re ever in California! There are 21 missions total beginning in San Diego and continuing up through San Francisco. Here’s a summary of the ones we visited…

Mission San Diego de Alcalá
Founded 1769
The First of the Missions

Mission San Luis Rey de Francia
Founded 1798
The King of the Missions

Mission San Juan Capistrano
Founded 1776
The Jewel of the Missions

I really hope one day we’ll be able to visit some of the other missions! Matt and I both love visiting historic sites whenever we go on a trip, so I’m sure we’ll keep the other missions on our list of places to see!

Capistrano was definitely a real treat to visit. Beautiful gardens and the fountain with the Koi fish. And the weather was perfect!

I have so enjoyed viewing your trip to CA. All of the photos have been fantastic! I really do like the mission photos, didn't know they were out there. Maybe one day I can see them too!

Yeah, SJC is a great little town and the mission was definitely beautiful. The others paled in comparison! So glad that was the one we went on a tour of!

Christy Lynn, I'm so glad you are getting a glimpse of something you haven't seen before! California is just amazing! The topography just makes my mouth water. I could do SOOOO much as far as photography. We should all try to go to a workshop out there one day! : )
