We are so honored that Julie & Garrett’s stunning classic wedding at the New Haven Lawn Club was featured this week on The Black Tie Bride! The Black Tie Bride is a new wedding blog created by the amazing Justin & Mary Marantz (our favorite photographers ever!). The blog celebrates timeless, iconic weddings, and we love the tag line – “Because classic never goes out of style.” Beautifully stated! Trends come and go, but classic is always beautiful! When the blog was announced, we instantly thought of Julie & Garrett’s wedding! If you want to be inspired by swoon-worthy wedding pretties, follow The Black Tie Bride on Facebook.

The Black Tie Bride also has a twin blog called The Well Groomed Groom! Yes, finally a blog dedicated to the gentlemen! Your groom can also follow them here on Facebook. Ladies, it’s okay to take a look as well. Who can resist a well dressed man?

As we begin the New Year, Matt and I have been reflecting on some of our favorite moments of 2013. It was another incredible year filled with special memories and special people. There were moments that made our hearts melt and others that made us laugh until our cheeks hurt! We traveled to some beautiful places and we got to explore this new place that we call home in southern California!

This was our first year as San Diego wedding photographers, and though we love shooting weddings here in California we also had the opportunity to travel once again to destinations throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean! It was so amazing to shoot our couples against the backdrop of bridges in New York, mossy oak trees in Savannah, and sandy shores of Jamaica. Here in California, we saw the beauty of the rocky coastline, the grandeur of northern California’s forests, and enjoyed year-round beautiful weather!

We also got to share in joyous celebrations with those we love! We traveled to China for Matt’s brother’s wedding, experiencing a new culture and seeing some of the most amazing sites in all the world! And recently, Gwen’s best friend got engaged, so we look forward to his wedding in 2014!

Over the past few weeks, we have thought a lot about what we want 2014 to look like for our business, and we have some HUGE news to share with everyone tomorrow! We are so excited about taking things in a new direction and excited for being able to offer so much more to our clients and their friends and families! And, of course, we can’t wait to share new memories with our 2014 couples, beginning with our first couple of the year just a week and a half away!

But before we move forward with our exciting plans for the new year, we want to send a gigantic THANK YOU to everyone who made 2013 such an amazing year! We wish you continued love and happiness in the New Year!

Our final wedding of 2013 was such a great end to a wonderful year! Brianna & Donnie’s wedding at the Jacksonville Golf & Country Club was filled with beautiful details, sweet moments, and had some of the funnest personal touches we’ve ever seen! They chose to have a Zelda-themed wedding, with custom-painted Chuck Taylors, Jones soda customized with Zelda labels, characters hidden in the beautiful centerpieces, themed cocktails, and an amazing wedding cake! They even entered the reception to Zedd’s remix of the Legend of Zelda theme! Needless to say, this wedding was packed full of fun times!

We have a couple more blog posts to share before the end of the year, including our favorite moments of 2013! Also, be sure to check back on the blog in January and/or follow us on Facebook for a huge announcement in January!

Last weekend, we were in warm and sunny Florida celebrating Brianna & Donnie’s wedding at the Jacksonville Golf & Country Club! It was a beautiful wedding with a twist! They added an element of fun with a Zelda theme throughout their elegant decor! I love when couples showcase their personality in their wedding details!

These cute newlyweds return from their honeymoon today, and we’re excited to share a couple sneak peeks from their wedding day! Don’t you just love their custom painted Chuck Taylors?! : )

Business Planning Retreat

December 11, 2013

Over the weekend, we photographed Brianna & Donnie’s wedding at the Jacksonville Golf & Country Club, which was our last wedding of the 2013 season! It’s so hard to believe how fast this year has flown by!

This year was full of big changes as we went into our first full year as California photographers. We began the year living in Temecula, but as we realized most of our life was in San Diego we decided over the summer to move yet again. As we begin looking forward to 2014, it’s time to reflect on what worked over the past year and what didn’t and think about what we want our business to look like moving forward.

My friend and fellow photographer Rupa Kapoor just happened to be coming to Florida for the month of December, so I decided to join her at a beach house in St. George Island for a week. We’ve been bouncing ideas off each other, doing some work and business planning, and having a lot of fun in between! Yesterday, we took her dogs for a walk on the beach and enjoyed the most beautiful sky! I sent the cameras home with Matt, but I couldn’t resist snapping some pics of beautiful St. George Island on my phone! Sometimes you just have to go on a retreat and clear your head, and there’s something about the ocean that soothes the soul and fosters the creative spirit!

Where do you go to find inspiration?

GTP is out of the office!

October 22, 2013

Hi everyone!

I can’t believe that we leave tomorrow for our trip to China and Japan! We are so excited to see Matt’s brother get married and meet his fiancee and her family and friends! We are excited to welcome our new sister and her family into ours! I’m sure we’ll have plenty of photos to share when we get back!

During our trip, we will not have access to email, so we look forward to talking to everyone when we return to the office on November 12th! : )

Over the weekend, I went to New York to hang out with Carolyn & Cris for their engagement photos in Brooklyn! They are sweet, down-to-earth, and beyond cute together! It was so much fun learning more about them as we walked along the water with the iconic Brooklyn Bridge in the background.

They chose Brooklyn for their engagement photos because Cris proposed at a park with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge in the background. I mean, really, can you ask for a better view for such a special moment?!

As the afternoon continued, the clouds got thicker (there was a forecast for rain that evening) and the lights of the city bounced around in between the clouds. Some of the clouds were so low they even covered the top of the buildings. It looked surreal! I was so glad that the rain held off for their session and that we ended up with such an amazing sky!

Now begins the count down to their wedding, which is one year from today!! I can’t wait for it to get here because I know it’s going to be beautiful and so much fun! In the meantime, here are some of the highlights from their engagement session! : )

I met up with Stephanie & Erik in Florida earlier this month for their engagement photos around Central Florida! We started off at Erik’s parents’ ranch in St. Cloud. Their property was so beautiful and so much fun! We had a great time among the mossy oaks and orange groves. Along the way we saw cows and deer and puppies and piggies. Such a great location for engagement photos, and I got to know this cute couple a little better as we rode around 160 beautiful acres of “real” Florida!

As the sun began to set, we made our way over to downtown Melbourne for part 2 of their session! All the years I lived in Florida and I never realized that downtown Melbourne was such a cool area! It’s full of shops and bars, and on this Saturday night it was packed with people! After their session, Stephanie & Erik actually met up with some people for a night out! Now THAT is the way to plan your engagement session!

Here are more photos from their session! This first one was an idea Stephanie found on Pinterest! It just shows what a great sense of humor they both have! : )

How did you celebrate the 4th of July? We celebrated it with a sweet couple and their friends and family at one AMAZING party! Kerri & Corey’s beautiful Hudson Valley wedding at The Grandview in Poughkeepsie was such just incredible from start to finish! The emotion was building all morning until they held hands together before the ceremony. With tears and smiles, they both expressed how excited they were to be getting soon! Friends and family gathered on the patio overlooking the Hudson river, and with the sun shining brightly Kerri & Corey shared vows that they wrote themselves.

As the faded behind the mountains, the party was starting inside the Grandview ballroom! To set the tone, the bride and groom and the wedding party kicked off the reception with the Harlem Shake. The evening was filled with fun moments, from a prank played on the best man to “spin the bottle” to determine who had to dance inside the circle. The highlight of the night was the fireworks over the Mid-Hudson Bridge! Honestly, I’m not sure how any 4th of July can top this one! We think they should throw this party every year to celebrate their anniversary! What do you think? : )
